Shield holders Bank hit back to march into round two

Holders Hesketh Bank overturned a two-goal deficit to beat Rossendale as the Lancashire FA Amateur Shield swung into action.

The Premier Division side had led 2-0 but a Lewis Johnson hat-trick, including a last-minute winner, saw them dramatically through to the second round.

Both Lostock St Gerards, CMB and Coppull triumphed in tricky looking fixtures against sides from other leagues who had done well in the competition in recent years.

Lostock saw off Rochdale Sacred Heart 6-1 while CMB battled past Whalley Range 4-2.

Coppull came away from Walshaw with a 2-1 win.

There were six all West Lancashire League ties with a shock away win thrown in for good measure.

Division Two high flyers Pause United enjoyed an eye-catching 5-1 win at Division One side Haslingden St Mary’s.

Burscough Richmond prevailed 4-0 at Poulton in the only all Premier Division clash while Wyre Villa needed penalties to see off Ulverston Rangers after a 0-0 draw.

League new boys Caton United pushed Turton all the way before succumbing 2-1 and Eagley won a humdinger by the odd goal in nine at home to Carnforth Rangers.

Fulwood Amateurs had a more relaxed passage into round two with a 9-1 victory over Astley and Buckshaw.

Slyne are also into the hat, a 6-5 win on penalties over Atherton Town after the game finished 1-1 in normal time.

Tempest United, Galgate, Askam and Storeys are all out after losing to sides from other leagues.

Tempest lost 4-0 at Elton Vale while Galgate fell to a 3-0 home defeat to Goldbourne Sports.

Askam lost 4-1 at Hindsford and Storeys were beaten 3-2 at home by Royton.

Hurst Green’s tie at Avenue was called off and will be played next Saturday.
