LFA Shield: Pause hit CMB for five as holders defeated

By Andy Sykes

Pause United shocked Premier Division leaders CMB as holders Hesketh Bank crashed out on a busy afternoon of Lancashire FA Amateur Shield action.

Pause, fourth in West Lancashire League division two, thumped the pacesetters 5-1 to advance into the third round.

Hesketh Bank lost 2-1 at home to Coppull United while last season’s beaten finalists Blackpool Wren Rovers saw off Eagley 7-2.

Previous winners Fulwood Amateurs are also through after seeing off Division Two tabletoppers Freckleton.

The hosts had led 3-0 but Freckleton stormed back to trail 3-2, but couldn’t find an equaliser.

Wyre Villa triumphed by the odd goal in three at home to Turton while Croston Sports had a more comfortable afternoon, dispatching Southport Hesketh 9-1, in another all West Lancashire League tie.

Crooklands Casuals took the local bragging rights with a 5-0 defeat of near neighbours Dalton United.

In matches against teams from other leagues, only Lostock St Gerards were victorius beating Bolton County 1-0.

Burscough Richmond slumped 4-0 at Bury side Elton Vale while Thornton Cleveleys lost 4-2 at Chadderton Cott.

Hurst Green bowed out 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time against Royton and Slyne led a lead slip to go down 3-2 at home to Milton.
