Division Two sides are through to the third round of the Richardson Cup as most matches beat the weather for another action-packed weekend writes BEN SMITH, with pictures of Thornton Cleveleys v Turton by JONATHAN MOORE.

Division Two sides Burnley United and Chipping picked up two of the standout results of the second round of Richardson Cup, defeating Premier Division sides Lytham Town and Burscough Richmond respectively.

Burnley United were twice pegged back on their way to a 3-2 victory, with goals from Joe Rodriquez and Bobby Carter cancelled out by a brace from Lytham Town’s Ross Ainsworth.

However, George Lord would score a decisive third for Burnley United to secure their place in round three.

Two whole divisions separated Chipping, third in Division Two, and Burscough Richmond, third in the Premier Division, heading into this weekend’s cup clash.

But it would be the former who would emerge victorious 4-3 on penalties after the game had finished level at 2-2.

Chipping’s goals came via Nathan Crook and Jake Unsworth, whilst Josh Niblock and Billy Whittle found the net for Burscough Richmond.

Meanwhile, Matt Van Wyk grabbed the headlines in the individual performance stakes, as he scored all four of Fulwood Amateurs’ goals in their 4-2 win over fellow Premier Division side Poulton.

Poulton’s goal also come through one source, with Nick Hepple hitting a brace.

There were two other all-Premier Division clashes, with Thornton Cleveleys taking on Turton and Whitehaven facing Wyre Villa.

Turton came from behind to beat Thornton Cleveleys 2-1, with goals from Jack Towers and Sam Rigby handing them victory after Jake Mangan had opened the scoring, whilst Whitehaven beat Wyre Villa 4-0.

Owen Woodburn bagged a brace, whilst Kian Goulding and Lewis Tidy grabbed a goal each.

In total, four other Premier Division sides definitely booked their place in round three, including Vickerstown, who had to fight from two down to beat Division One outfit Askam United 3-2.

Aiden Pearson and Callum Rayner had Askam United 2-0 up with 20 minutes gone, before goals from Kyle Delves, Danny Cummins and Jordan Dix saw Vickerstown fight back to take victory.

CMB also had a less than straightforward afternoon as they were twice pegged back on their way to a 3-2 win over Division Two leaders Holker Old Boys Reserves.

Daniel Crook and Hayden Taylor saw their goals cancelled out by Joe McGladdery and Matthew Roberts, before Callum Cornes eventually secured a place in the next round for CMB.

Hurst Green would have to endure no such scares as they beat Walney Island 5-0, with James Nightingale, Liam Dewhurst, Scott Craven, Jack Holligan and Alex Wood all getting on the scoresheet.

And in the final game involving a Premier Division side, Blackpool Wren Rovers beat Astley and Buckshaw 2-0 thanks to a Carl Eastwood strike and an own goal.

Away from ties involving sides from the West Lancashire League’s top tier, and the second round threw up two all-Division Two matchups.

Kendal United defeated AFC Blackpool Reserves 4-2, with Matthew Kennedy, Ryan Close, Keenan Quill and Tom Russell all finding the net.

Goals from Jake Swarbrick and Declan Bond gave AFC Blackpool Reserves hope of a comeback after finding themselves 3-0 down, but Russell’s goal late on ensured it would not be forthcoming.

Meanwhile, Freckleton, second in Division Two, beat Cartmel, second bottom of the division, 3-0 thanks to a goal from Owen Potts and a Joe Bentley brace.

And in the final tie to be played this weekend, Rossendale beat fellow Division One side Haslingden St Marys 1-0, with Scott Wylie netting the only goal of the game.

Scheduled ties between Eagley and Slyne with Hest, and Tempest United and Coppull United, were postponed.

Division One: Hesketh Bank cash in

It was a reduced schedule of league action this weekend, with a number of sides in action in the second round of the Richardson Cup.

And we start this week in Division One, where Hesketh Bank took advantage of Lostock St Gerards and Rossendale’s cup-related absence to cut the gap to the league’s leading duo.

Goals from Richard Burns, Kevin Edgar and Joe Smyth-Ferguson sealed a 3-0 win for Hesketh Bank over Millom.

Elsewhere, a brace from Mike Melia helped Hawcoat Park secure a 2-2 draw with Ulverston Rangers. Ulverston Rangers’ goals courtesy of Sean Mooney and an own goal.

Horwich St Mary’s Victoria beat Kendal County 2-1, with Connor Dalton and Anthony Hough finding the net either side of a goal from Kendal County’s Aaron McMinn.

Goals from Joe Tierney and Muhammed Samateh in the first and last minute of normal time saw Southport Hesketh beat Stoneclough 2-0.

And rounding off the Division One action, Carnforth Rangers left it late to seal all three points in their 1-0 win against Crooklands Casuals, with Tom Knight grabbing the only goal of the game in the 87th minute.

Division Two: Chubb and Sanderson star in 10/10 Dalton United performance

Jordan Chubb hit an incredible six goals in single game as his Dalton United side recorded a 10-0 victory at Galgate.

Robbie Sanderson impressed too, scoring a hat-trick, the youngest
player in Dalton's history to grab a treble for the first team.

Ruben Hutton also grabbed a goal for the visitors.

The only other game in Division Two this weekend saw Storeys beat Pause United 5-1.

Daniel Briggs-Calvert, Matthew Poole, Callum Moorhead, Daniel Palin and Liam Jackson all got on the scoresheet, whilst Pause United’s only goal came through Zac Dennison.

Garstang Reserves had been scheduled to take on Euxton Villa Reserves, but that game was ultimately postponed due to wet weather.

Division One Reserve: Turton Reserves take over at the top

A 4-2 win over CMB Reserves saw Turton Reserves head to the division’s summit, with the leaders’ goals coming through Andrew Lane, Ethan Mason and a Cole Exley double.

Both of CMB Reserves’ goals were scored by Harry Dixon.

With Thornton Cleveleys Reserves, who led the division coming into this weekend, seeing their game at Lostock St Gerards Reserves postponed, the door was left open for the rest of the chasing pack.

And Turton Reserves’ route to the top was further cleared after Tempest United won 5-0 at Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves, who previously occupied second.

Nick Skelly scored twice for the visitors, whilst Jack Rawnsley, Jamie Farnworth and Jordan Coop all grabbed a goal apiece.

Coppull United Reserves also hit five as they beat Croston Sports Reserves 5-2.

Allessio De Grassi, Josh Welsh, Gregg Brickell, Joe Gallaway and Ethan Ingram all found the net for Coppull United Reserves, whilst Croston Sports Reserves’ goals came courtesy of Jonny Gough and Danny Metge.

Goals from Matthew Bagot, Max Bryden and Louis James saw Hurst Green Reserves pick up a 3-0 win at Poulton Reserves.

And in addition to Lostock St Gerards Reserves vs Thornton Cleveleys Reserves, Horwich St Mary’s Victoria vs Fulwood Amateurs Reserves was also postponed.

Division Two Reserve: Brilliant Booth powers Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves to victory

A hat-trick from Will Booth helped Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves come from two down to register a 4-2 victory over Rossendale Reserves.

Goals from Harry Buckley and Henry Hindle gave Rossendale Reserves a 2-0 lead after 21 minutes, before Booth’s treble, along with a goal from Cole Proctor, saw Milnthorpe Corinthians fight back to take the win.

That result, along with a 1-0 win at Haslingden St Marys Reserves, saw Eagley Reserves further extend their advantage at the top, which now stands at 10 points, not accounting for games in hand.

Completing this week’s league action, Thornton Cleveleys A beat Lytham Town Reserves 5-3, whilst Carnforth Rangers Reserves triumphed 2-1 at Fulwood Amateurs A.
