Seven-up Kendal United impress boss Pattison

James Pattison said his Kendal United side bounced back from two defeats with their "best footballing performance of the season" in their 7-0 win at Crooklands Casuals, writes ROSS CHAPMAN.

The Division One side got the biggest win of the day thanks to four goals from Caden Beckett, who has just joined on dual registration with Kendal Town, as well as George Key, Steve Brown and Bradley Thompson getting on the scoresheet.

Pattison (pictured middle above) said: “We came off the back of two defeats and that was the first time we’ve lost two in a row since I became manager, so that’s across 50 competitive games.

“It was a new position for us to be in and you’re always a bit apprehensive about how they’d follow on from that, you’re hoping for a big reaction.

“We put in our best footballing performance of the season so far yesterday.

“We had all the ball in the first half without really troubling the keeper too much, we were 1-0 up at the break and after that we were relentless.

“Some of the attacking play was amazing and we scored some fantastic goals.

“We had a really strong 16 man squad yesterday, and we tend to become stronger once we bring subs on.

“Caden Beckett has come in from Kendal added a real bit of quality to the squad, at a time when we’re a bit light on forwards due to injury and holidays.

“When you go up a division, your first thought is ‘let’s survive, let’s consolidate our position’ so you’d probably be happy with a mid table finish but in my mind, a top seven finish and trying to win a cup would be a good season.

“We should probably have a few more points than what we actually have so I’m really confident with the quality of the squad.”

Pattison has been at Kendal United for the last 14 years, mostly as a player, before moving onto becoming the club’s reserves manager.

His first season in charge of the first team was last year, when they won promotion to Division One, finishing two points behind champions Pause United and seven points clear of third place Stoneclough.

“I told myself that a top five or six finish with a good cup run would’ve been a good year last season.

“We hit the ground running and never looked back, getting stronger as the season progressed.

“To get promoted was an amazing feeling and it was a great season: we won the County FA Invitational Trophy and were runners up in the County FA Senior Challenge Cup.”

Off the field, the club are always looking to improve the quality of the pitch as well as the hospitality, trying to bring post-match food and drinks in-house rather than going elsewhere.
