Allan looking up after taking step into unknown

After a strong start to the campaign, Millom manager Dave Allan is confident his side’s heavy defeat on Saturday is a ‘one-off’.

They lost 7-1 to Lostock St Gerards away from home - only their second defeat in nine league games so far.

Taylor Brickell (2), Jack Shields, Ryan Fletcher (2), Mason McKay and Josh Sands got the goals for LSG with Jordan Brumby netting a late consolation.

Allan’s side had to contend with absences, both through injury and other commitments, on Saturday and fielded 16-year-old keeper Brodie Shaw who he said ‘deserved massive credit’.

“Today wasn’t the day for us but I’ve got no doubts in my mind that we will react next week with players back.”

Overall, though, Allan is delighted with how the team has performed since promotion.

He joined the club’s coaching team back in February 2023 and has been assisted by local favourites Carl Waters and Stuart Pattinson while he has been first team manager.

“One of the aims is to stay in the Premier Division, it’s a league we’re never been in so to start the way we have, I’m really pleased with that.

“We’re certainly not in the league to make up the numbers.”

Millom were promoted as champions of Division One last season, racking up 74 points and nearly 100 goals in 2024/25.

“It’s 35 years since a league title has been won here.

“It’s definitely the most successful season I’ve had in football.

“I’ve tried to get us to play good football, playing on the floor.

“Every player apart from two scored last season and Ben MacDonald and Jamie Pattinson scored nearly 50 combined last season.

“We’ve missed Jamie through injury but last season he and the rest of the team were incredible, keeping possession and playing great football.”

Allan is excited to be part of a very competitive league season.

“One thing I’ve noticed in this division is that anyone can beat anyone, week to week you don’t know what to expect.

“Our other results this season has been very close-run games.

“With a win in our game in hand, we could go level on points with second, it’s that close.

“Some clubs get stronger, some get weaker and then there’s also scope for them to move on to the North West Counties which is exciting.

“We’re a small community but we have four senior teams, a walking football team and the junior setup too which go right from under 8s to under 16s so considering the area we’re in, we do really well.”

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, Eagley extended their lead at the top to six points with a 1-0 win at Haslingden St Mary’s, who sit in second.

Sam Crook scored the decisive goal - it’s 10 unbeaten now for Neil Hart’s side.

Milnthorpe Corinthians picked up their first win of the season, beating Coppull United 3-0, while Hurst Green moved up to third with a 3-1 victory at home to Astley & Buckshaw.

Reserve Division One leaders Lostock St Gerards Reserves came away with a 6-2 win at Poulton Reserves - both them and second placed Blackpool Wren Rovers remain unbeaten.

The top two sides in Reserve Division Two still have 100% records intact - Hurst Green Reserves and Thornton Cleveleys A saw off Storeys’ and Astley & Buckshaw’s reserve sides with 2-0 and 4-1 wins respectively.
