Bentley winner steers fabulous Freckleton into pole position

Joe Bentley's 11th goal of a prolific August fired Freckleton three points clear at the top of Division Two writes BEN SMITH, with pictures from PAUL HUNT.

Premier Division: Wyre Villa triumph in nine-goal thriller

Wyre Villa secured a remarkable second win of the season this weekend, coming from 2-0 down to record a 6-3 victory over Coppull United.

Scott Hendy and James Hamer gave Coppull United a two-goal cushion going into half-time, but goals from John Stead, Maleck Tanou and Luke Smith saw Wyre Villa turn the game around within the hour.

Coppull United’s Ethan Wellington would level the game at 3-3 with 15 minutes to go, before another round of quickfire goals for Wyre Villa courtesy of Ryan Charnley, Finlay Stewart and Charnley again eventually sealed all three points for their side.

Slyne with Hest would also record victory thanks to a flurry of late goals, as they turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 win in another dramatic clash against Turton.

Turton led 3-2 with less than 20 minutes to play thanks to goals from Jack Burke, Dylan Jeffs and Sam Rigby, whilst Jim Craig and Reece Pearce had found the net for Slyne with Hest.

However, a succession of late strikes from Connor Crossley, Danny Dixon and Jim Craig would ultimately see Slyne with Hest run out 5-3 winners.

There was yet more late drama at Burscough Richmond, who claimed victory over Milnthorpe Corinthians deep into second-half stoppage time.

Burscough Richmond led 2-0 for much of the game through Raj-Singh Uppal and Colin Bosque-Green, but a three-minute double from Tom Jackson looked to have rescued a point for Milnthorpe Corinthians, tying the score at 2-2 with just four minutes of normal time remaining.

Burscough Richmond would though restore their lead in the seventh minute of stoppage time thanks to a Dillan Bosque-Green goal.

That result leaves Burscough Richmond in second, three points off the top of the table with a game in hand on league leaders Poulton, who maintained their grip on top spot with a 4-1 win against Whitehaven.

Poulton’s goals came courtesy of a brace from Max Landless, as well as strikes from Nick Hepple and Josh Few, whilst Kian Goulding scored Whitehaven’s only goal of the game.

CMB also recorded an impressive home victory, as they beat Lytham Town 6-1.

Daniel Locke and Oliver Turner both bagged braces for CMB, with Harry Dixon and Will Owen completing the scoring for the hosts. Tom Eastham was the goalscorer for Lytham Town.

Sitting just behind CMB in the Premier Division table are Fulwood Amateurs, and they too picked up three points with a 2-1 win at Blackpool Wren Rovers.

Lewis Bamber and Luke Gornall gave Fulwood Amateurs a 2-0 lead, and despite Blackpool Wren Rovers pulling one back through John Hay, the visitors would hold on to take the win.

Hurst Green’s Jordan Rawcliffe had his brace cancelled out by goals from Jackson Round and Kyle Delves as they played out a 2-2 draw with Vickerstown.

Rounding off the Premier Division action, Tempest United came from a goal down to beat Thornton Cleveleys 2-1.

Jake Marshall got the game’s opener for Thornton Cleveleys, before Joel Shorthouse and Kurt Farlow completed the turnaround for Tempest United.

Division One: Hesketh Bank make it seven in succession

Table toppers Hesketh Bank are still yet to drop points this season after picking up a seventh win on the bounce with a 4-1 victory over Crooklands Casuals.

Crooklands Casuals did lead for a significant portion of the game thanks to Danny Ritchie’s 20th minute strike, but a second-half double for Danny Birkby, along with goals from Kevin Edgar and Josh Brierley would ensure that Hesketh Bank extended their 100% record.

Attempting to keep pace with Hesketh Bank are Rossendale, who sit one place and two points adrift of the league leaders after a 4-0 win at Carnforth Rangers, with Simon Nangle, Jake Cassidy, Luke Simpson and Scott Wylie all on target for the visitors.

Second half goals from Sean Mooney, Sam Pinnegor and Archie Butler helped Ulverston Rangers to a 3-0 win over Lostock St Gerards in a battle between two of Division One’s other early form sides.

Stoneclough took maximum points for the first time this campaign with a home victory over Kendal County.

Two goals from Aigel Campbell and another from Nathan Pitt helped the hosts into a 3-0 lead and despite Matthew Casson converting two penalties for Kendal County, Stoneclough would hold to claim an important 3-2 win.

Kieran Sissons and Tom Flitcroft both found the net as Eagley came from a goal down to beat Croston Sports 2-1. Croston Sports’ Isaac Hayes got the game’s opener.

Elsewhere in Division one, Haslingden St Mary’s picked up three points on the road with a 2-0 against Hawcoat Park.

Southport Hesketh's home match with Millom was called off due to a water supply issue at the Bankfield Lane ground.

Division Two: Freckleton pull clear out front

Top of the league Freckleton increased their advantage over second-placed Walney Island to three points with a 2-1 win over Holker Old Boys Reserves.

Goals from Graham Lyons and Joe Bentley gave Freckleton a 2-0 lead, before Freddie Lawton pulled one back for Holker Old Boys Reserves.

Walney Island had led in their game against Burnley United thanks to a Zach Walker penalty, but an own goal later in the game would see the two sides play out a 1-1 draw.

Chipping, currently third, remain well-placed after defeating Cartmel 4-0.

That result leaves Chipping also three points off top spot, but with a game in hand on those around them, including Freckleton.

A pair of braces from Lewis Sullivan and Ash Ball helped Euxton Villa Reserves continue their positive start to the season with a 4-0 win against Pause United.

Kendal United would recover from going a goal down inside three minutes to beat Charnock Richard Reserves 4-1.

Ashley Young got Charnock Richard Reserves off to an ideal start, but a second half own-goal, along with strikes from Tom Russell, Bailey Kenny and George Key, would ultimately see Kendal United take all three points.

Garstang Reserves also recorded a 4-1 victory, with their win coming on the road at Astley and Buckshaw.

AFC Blackpool Reserves registered their first win of the season, beating Galgate 2-1 thanks to goals from Dean Cosgrove and Charlie Wood.

Jonathan Thom did pull one back for Galgate, but AFC Blackpool Reserves would hold on to take maximum points.

Dalton United’s Jordan Chubb twice pulled his side level, including once from the penalty spot, as they drew 2-2 at Storeys. Josh Airey and Matthew Poole found the net for the hosts.

Division One Reserve: Turton Reserves turn on the style

Doubles from Joe Sigworth, Teador Slavov and Cole Exley helped Turton Reserves record a 7-2 victory over Croston Sports Reserves.

Tyler McCarthy got Turton Reserves’ other goal, whilst Olly Jones and George Rose were on target for Croston Sports Reserves.

Lostock St Gerards Reserves triumphed 3-2 in their top of the table clash with Thornton Cleveleys Reserves to move to the division’s summit.

A brace from Danny Fryer and an Alex Hogarth goal powered Lostock St Gerards Reserves to victory, despite Danny Hadcraft and Alex Senior finding the net for Thornton Cleveleys Reserves.

Hurst Green Reserves came from two down to draw 2-2 at home to CMB Reserves thanks to goals from Liam Dewhurst and Matthew Bagot.

Ben Lilley and Jack Locke had CMB Reserves 2-0 up before half-time, but the visitors would ultimately have to settle for a point.

Elsewhere in the division, Coppull United Reserves and Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves played out a high-scoring 4-4 draw, Tempest United Reserves eventually saw off Fulwood Amateurs Reserves 4-3 and Horwich St Mary’s Victoria Reserves beat Poulton Reserves 3-1.

Division Two Reserve: Paterson puts in five-star performance

Carnforth Rangers Reserves secured a first win of the season in style with a 7-1 victory away at Thornton Cleveleys A, with five of the visitors’ seven goals being scored by Oliver Paterson.

Carnforth Rangers Reserves’ scoring was rounded off by Curtis Graham and an own goal, with Liam Hewitt getting on the scoresheet for Thornton Cleveleys A.

In the only other result from the division this weekend, an own goal in the 15th minute was enough to see Chipping Reserves beat Eagley Reserves 1-0.
