Hepple treble sees Poulton reach Prem summit

Poulton moved top of the Premier Division on matchday three of the 2022/23 season thanks to a 6-0 win against Milnthorpe Corinthians writes BEN SMITH, with pictures from Fulwood Amateurs v Lytham by GRAHAM LANCASTER.

A hat-trick from Nick Hepple, along with goals from Luke Noble, Callum Preece and Billy Joyce helped Poulton secure the three points and move top of the league by virtue of their superior goal difference.

In total, four teams are tied on seven points at the top of the Premier Division, and leading the pursuit of Poulton are Burscough Richmond, who beat previous league leaders Coppull United 1-0 via a Will Doherty penalty to go second.

CMB currently occupy third place after leaving it late to seal a 2-1 victory over Hurst Green.

Daniel Mort initially put Hurst Green in front from the spot, before goals from Dylan Winstanley and Oliver Turner, the latter coming in the 90th minute, completed the turnaround for CMB.

Fourth-placed Whitehaven also won by a 2-1 scoreline away at Blackpool Wren Rovers.

Goals from Josh Green and Carl Denver established a two-goal cushion for Whitehaven, and despite Jacob Aspinall pulling one back for Blackpool Wren Rovers late on, the visitors held on to take their place amongst the league’s leading pack.

Away from the battle for top spot, Wyre Villa picked up their first points of the season with a 2-0 win against Turton.

A second-half Richie Allen double was enough to see Wyre Villa open their Premier Division account following promotion from Division One last season.

Tempest United played host to a dramatic, high-scoring affair as a last-minute winner saw them ultimately triumph 4-3 over Slyne with Hest.

Slyne led 2-0 early on thanks to a brace from Reece Pearce, and would also lead 3-1 after Jordan Pendlebury’s goal for Tempest United was cancelled by a third for the away side, coming courtesy of Josh Draycott.

However, Tempest United would eventually launch a successful comeback, thanks an own goal, and strikes from Aaron Thorpe and Joel Shorthouse.

There was no shortage of goals at Vickerstown either, who played out a 2-2 draw with Thorton Cleveleys.

Kyle Delves scored both goals for Vickerstown, whilst Jake Marshall and Reece Young found the net for Thornton Cleveleys.

Elsewhere, Fulwood Amateurs beat Lytham Town 3-0.

Division One: Three from three for league’s top three

Penalty or no penalty?

Penalty or no penalty?

Three sides were able to extend their 100% records in Division One this weekend, making it a maximum nine points taken from their first three games.

Currently topping the table are Lostock St Gerards, who secured their place at the summit with a 2-1 home win against Haslingden St Mary’s.

Lostock St Gerards had found themselves behind in the first half after Lewis Hanley opened the scoring for Haslingden St Mary’s, but an Alex Santos penalty followed by a goal from James Morley helped the hosts turn things around to take top spot on goal difference.

Following close behind are second-placed Ulverston Rangers, who picked up their third win on the bounce with a 3-1 victory against Croston Sports.

Strikes from Ben Wheeler and Sam Pinnegor gave Ulverston Rangers a 2-0 lead, before Dom Swarbrick netted for Croston Sports to halve the deficit.

Any hopes of a Croston Sports comeback would be short-lived though, as Sean Mooney would add a third for Ulverston Rangers just 10 minutes later to seal the win.

The final Division One side to maintain their perfect start to the season were Hesketh Bank, who like table-toppers Lostock St Gerards would have to come from behind to win 2-1.

Hesketh Bank trailed at Carnforth Rangers just four minutes in after Tom Knight netted the opener, but would ultimately come away with the points thanks to second-half goals from Nathan Gonzalez and Dan Birkby.

Southport Hesketh denied Rossendale the opportunity to match the top three as the two sides played out a 1-1 draw.

Hesketh came just minutes from shutting out the previously free-scoring Rossendale, leading 1-0 going into second-half stoppage time through a goal from Tom Cunliffe.

However, Rossendale’s Joe Maycock would find the net in the 91st minute to ensure that the points would be shared.

Kendal County, who suffered defeat at Lostock St Gerards in midweek, got back to winning ways in style with a 6-0 win on the road at Hawcoat Park.

Crooklands Casuals also enjoyed victory by a reasonably comfortable margin, as three goals in 15 second-half minutes from Nathan Tracey, Morgan Trelore and Ryan Rogers helped them to a 3-0 win over Horwich St Mary’s Victoria.

The scoreline wasn’t quite so comfortable for Millom, but goals from Ben McDonald, Harry Cowley and Theo Wilson ensured they got the job done with a 3-2 victory against Stoneclough.

Finally in Division One, Askam United and Eagley would take a point apiece after a 2-2 draw.

Aiden Pearson and Josh Jones would find the net for Askam United, while Jordan Hibbert and Lewis Nolan were the scorers for Eagley.

Division Two: Charnock Richard Reserves register rampant victory

Charnock Richard Reserves secured their first win of the season in emphatic fashion with a 9-0 win against Cartmel.

Oliver Oxley scored four, Tom Charnley bagged a brace, whilst Jack Bennett, Luke Charnley and Hayden Turner all got on the scoresheet for Charnock Richard Reserves.

They weren’t the only reserve side to record an impressive victory this week, with Holker Old Boys Reserves also beating Garstang Reserves 7-2.

Farrell Foster and Tyler Spence both grabbed first-half doubles, with Charlie Thompson, Luke Ellis and Tom Stevenson completing the scoring for Holker Old Boys Reserves. Tom Graham and Jake Salisbury got the goals for Garstang Reserves.

A hat-trick from Joe Bentley, along with goals from Steven Johnson and Zach Wilkes, helped Freckleton to a 5-1 victory against Dalton United. Keith Holmes scored Dalton United’s only goal of the game.

A late goal rush would see Astley and Buckshaw pick up maximum points on the road away at Galgate.

Heading into the final 15 minutes, the game was level at 1-1 after Astley and Buckshaw’s Marco Thompson had cancelled out Sorin Iacob’s opener for Galgate, before late strikes from Ollie Vaulks, Wes Bajrallu and Mark Forshaw saw the visitors run out 4-1 winners.

It was a similar story at Burnley United, who scored all four of their goals against Pause United in the final half hour.

Harris Tomlinson scored twice, Mohammed Abaullch-Butt added a third and Niall Edmonson rounded things off with another late on to wrap up a 4-0 win.

Euxton Villa Reserves maintained their unbeaten start to their campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Kendal United.

Matthew Kennedy opened the scoring for Kendal United, before Euxton Villa Reserves scored twice in nine minutes through Nick Buckley and Ash Ball to take what would be a decisive lead.

Last but certainly not least in Division Two, Walney Island continued their bright start to the season with an incredible 6-4 victory over Storeys.

James Bailey continued his blistering start to the season for Walney Island, netting a brace to take his tally to eight in three games, whilst Kieran Solloway scored two and Reece Craig and James Solloway grabbed one each.

Asa Stone ended up on the losing side despite a brace for Storeys, and being aided by both Garry Hunter and Joel Brogan who also scored in a game which swung one way and then the other.

Division One Reserve: Ten-goal thriller at Hurst Green

Hurst Green Reserves secured their first points of the campaign in a remarkable game against Fulwood Amateurs Reserves, eventually coming out on top 6-4.

Croston Sports Reserves also got off the mark, albeit with a draw, after a 2-2 stalemate against CMB Reserves.

Croston Sports Reserves twice led through Ewan Cheetham and Danny Metge, only to be pegged back on both occasions, first by a Josh Pope penalty, and then by a goal from Danny Halloran which would ultimately see the game end level.

Lostock St Gerards Reserves took maximum points for the first time this season with a 3-1 win against Coppull United Reserves.

Second half goals from Andrew Richards and Wes Alexander helped Lostock St Gerards Reserves, after Dan Fryer’s opener had been cancelled out by Coppull United Reserves via a Scott Hendy spot kick.

Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves made it two wins from two with a 4-2 triumph away at Horwich Victoria St Mary’s Reserves, despite Joe McLean netting a brace for the hosts.

Turton Reserves saw off Poulton Reserves 1-0 after Teador Slavov scored the only goal of the game after 66 minutes.

The other game in the division saw Thornton Cleveleys Reserves beat Tempest United Reserves 3-0.

Division Two Reserves: Lytham Town Reserves celebrate gr-eight win

A hat-trick from Ric Tomlinson set Lytham Town Reserves on their way to an 8-1 victory over Fulwood Amateurs A.

Finlay Best added two goals, whilst Oliver Fishwick, Cameron Stubbs and Danny Lenehan chipped in with a goal each. Jamie Lynch scored the only goal for Fulwood Amateurs A.

Three sides secured their second victory of the season on Saturday to open their campaigns with consecutive wins.

Rossendale Reserves beat Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves 3-0, Haslingden St Mary’s Reserves triumphed 4-0 over Chipping Reserves, whilst Hesketh Bank Reserves saw off Carnforth Rangers Reserves 3-2 to go top of the division.

Rounding off the weekend’s action, Storeys picked up a 2-1 away win at Thornton Cleveleys A.
