No let up as title challengers refuse to falter

The top five in the Premier Division all won as Haslingden St Mary's enjoyed a stand-out away win in Division One, writes BEN SMITH.

Premier Division: CMB feeling fine as they hit nine

On a weekend of widespread weather-related postponements across the West Lancashire League, the Premier Division thankfully escaped unaffected, with all scheduled games going ahead.

And there was certainly no shortage of action, with the Saturday’s standout result seeing CMB, managed by Matt Taylor (pictured), register a 9-1 victory over Vickerstown.

Ben Thornton netted a hat-trick, Charlie Scholes and Callum Cornes both bagged braces, and Dylan Winstanley and Christian McCrory also found the net.

Scott McDonald got Vickerstown’s only goal.

Elsewhere in the Division, Matt Van Wyk’s second-half hat-trick fired Fulwood Amateurs to a 5-2 win against Thornton Cleveleys.

Fulwood Amateurs took the lead through Zaid Bangi, but found themselves behind as Thornton Cleveleys battled back through a Richard Wright penalty and a goal from Billy Dollin.

Seb Hall levelled the game up again at 2-2, before Van Wyk’s treble sealed all three points for Fulwood Amateurs.

Second-placed Poulton kept up their pursuit of Burscough Richmond as they claimed 4-2 win at Lytham Town.

Mitchell Cheetham, Jack Wyers-Roebuck and Nick Hepple established a 3-0 lead for the visitors, before a Billy Bould brace set up the possibility of an unlikely Lytham Town comeback.

However, Cheetham would add his second of the game and Poulton’s fourth late on to make sure of the points.

The league leaders show little sign of faltering under the pressure though, as Burscough Richmond won again, beating Hurst Green 3-1 to maintain their place at the top.

Second-half goals from Dillan Bosque-Green and Billy Whittle secured the win, after Raj Singh-Uppal’s opener had been cancelled out by Hurst Green’s Liam Dewhurst.

Slyne with Hest also picked up a 3-1 win this weekend, with two penalties helping them on their way to a comeback victory at Coppull United.

James Hamer opened the scoring for Coppull United, before first Josh Draycott and then Regan Crossley found the net from the spot to turn the game on its head.

Jimmy Craig would later add a third to wrap the game up for Slyne with Hest.

Two goals in four minutes from John Aitken helped Whitehaven to a 3-0 win over Turton.

Kian Goulding added the third in second-half stoppage time.
Rounding off the Premier Division action, Blackpool Wren Rovers and Tempest United played out a 1-1 draw.

Kurt Fallow opened the scoring for Tempest United, only to his goal cancelled out by Robert Hanslip with just four minutes of normal time remaining.

Division One: Goals rain at Askam United as league battles weather

Just three Division One games survived this weekend, with five having to be postponed.

The pick of the action saw Kendal County record a high-scoring 6-3 win over at Askam United.

Matthew Casson hit a hat-trick, whilst Connor Walmsley, Brodie Moffatt and Aaron McMinn also found the net for the visitors.

Askam United’s goals came through Lee Irving, Callum Rayner and Jordan Rayner.

Haslingden St Marys also picked up an impressive win the road, battling from behind to win 2-1 and inflict a first home defeat of the season on Hesketh Bank.

Ash Disley had put the host in front, but goals from Jordan Lewis and Brady Boardman would see Haslingden St Marys ultimately claim the points.

In the final Division One game to take place, Horwich St Mary’s Victoria beat Millom 4-1 courtesy of a Tim Raines brace, along with goals from Alex Mackenzie and Scott Adamson.

Millom’s only goal came through a Jackson Evans penalty.

Finally, a quick round-up of the Division One matches which had to be called off.

The following fixtures were all postponed this weekend: Carnforth Rangers vs Lostock St Gerards, Croston Sports vs Crooklands Casuals, Hawcoat Park vs Rossendale, Southport Hesketh vs Eagley, Stoneclough vs Ulverston Rangers.

Division Two: Holker Old Boys Reserves register another big win

It was a brighter picture in Division Two, with just one fixture, between Chipping and Astley and Buckshaw, not being completed.

And it was another good weekend for league leaders Holker Old Boys Reserves, as they continued their fine form with a 6-0 win over Galgate.

Faryl Foster scored twice, whilst Charlie McGladdery, Robbie Wallace and Frankie Ellis and Freddie Lawton also all on target.

Freckleton are now second after a Graham Lyons hat-trick powered them to a 4-1 victory over Charnock Richard Reserves.

Joe Bentley also found the net for Freckleton, whilst Charnock Richard Reserves’ goal was scored by Matthew O’Neill.

A brace from Joe Rodriquez helped Burnley United to a 5-0 win over AFC Blackpool Reserves. Bobby Carter, Sam Langford and Max McNulty also grabbed a goal apiece.

Jordan Chubb also hit a double for Dalton United, as they won 3-1 at Pause United.

Robbie McMurdo also got on the scoresheet for the visitors, whilst Pause United’s goal came through Aaron Helliwell.

It was a day of late action at Garstang Reserves, where the game remained goalless heading into the final 10 minutes.

Luke Williams finally broke the deadlock for the hosts after 81 minutes, only for visitors Cartmel to level the game up with just a minute of normal time to play.

Jordan Airey’s 89th minute strike would ultimately see the game end 1-1.

And it was the same scoreline at Storeys, who played out a draw with Euxton Villa Reserves.

The visitors took the lead through Nick Buckley after just four minutes, but a second-half goal from Matthew Poole would secure Storeys a share of the spoils.

Division One Reserve: Turton Reserves in seventh heaven

Turton Reserves put in a real performance as they beat Thornton Cleveleys Reserves 7-0, with Ryan Hulme, Joe Sigworth, Cole Exley (penalty), Josh Sigworth, Andrew Lane and Ben McCabe all chipping in on the scoring front.

CMB Reserves picked up maximum points away from home for the first time this season as they beat Poulton Reserves 3-1.

Andrew Bishop opened the scoring for the visitors, only to see his goal cancelled out by Nick Pugh just six minutes later.

However, a quickfire double from Lewis Cullen in the second-half would see CMB Reserves take all three points.

Fulwood Amateurs would also secure victory by a 3-1 scoreline, coming from behind to beat Coppull United Reserves.

Gregg Brickell got the game’s opening goal, before strikes from Cory Gill, Jordan Wignall and Kane Froggatt saw Fulwood Amateurs Reserves fight back to take the win.

Scheduled fixtures, which would have seen Lostock St Gerards take on Croston Sports Reserves and Tempest United Reserves face Blackpool Wren Rovers Reserves, were postponed.

Division Two Reserve: Eagley Reserves and Thornton Cleveleys A put in five-star performances

Just two games were completed in the Division 2 Reserve league this weekend, and both ended with 5-0 scorelines.

Thornton Cleveleys A beat Chipping Reserves, whilst Eagley Reserves secured victory over Hesketh Bank Reserves.

Eagley Reserves’ victory was made all the more impressive by the fact their goals came through five different goalscorers, with Akbar Khosbab, Karanga Zach-Browne, Jordan Hibbert, Mike Linney and John Sharples all finding the net.

The three other scheduled games in the division were all postponed.

These were: Haslingden St Marys Reserves vs Carnforth Rangers Reserves, Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves vs Lytham Town Reserves and Rossendale Reserves vs Storeys Reserves.
