Milnthorpe take charge of Division One title race

Milnthorpe Corinthians took a giant step towards promotion from Division One - as a league legend kept another side in the hunt, writes THEO HEWSON-BETTS with pictures from DERICK THOMAS.

Premier Division: Dodd’s Double helps Fulwood tail Thornton

Fulwood Amateurs moved to within nine points of Thornton Cleveleys with a 4-2 comeback win over CMB.

Ryan Dodd scored a double for the home side who scored twice late on to see off the plucky visitors, who had led in the first half.

Will Pitt opened the scoring for the home side on four minutes but Callum Yeasley and Dylan Winstanley put CMB in front.

Dodd restored parity just before half time before Lucas Weaver put Fulwood ahead on 77 minutes. Dodd made it 4-2 with eight minutes left.

Burscough Richmond also scored four. Slyne With Hest managed one in return, though Josh Draycott’s goal was a paltry match for the goals of Jordan Lorde, Josh Murray, Lee McNabb and Raj Uppal.

Euxton Villa squeezed past Whitehaven Amateurs 2-1. Callum Speed and Michel Galliers were the Euxton scorers and, while Bobby Carter’s goal threatened to get Whitehaven back on level terms, the game ended with Euxton taking the three points.

There were two games settled by a late goal in the Premier Division.

Vickerstown relied on an 83rd-minute goal from Scott McDonald to get them a 1-0 win against Turton while Nathan Bibby scored in the 85th-minute for Coppull United to see them to victory over Blackpool Wren Rovers.

Division 1: Birkby’s Brilliance and Wonderful Welsh

Milnthorpe Corinthians beat Wyre Villa 3-0 in a result that sees the travelling side maintain their five-point lead at the top of the table.

Prolific striker Steve Yawson grabbed another hat-trick to take his tally to 25 for the season, stunning Richie Allen's men in the process.

Wyre Villa are now 17 points behind Milnthorpe with five games in hand, meaning it's now in the hands of the Cumbrians at the top of the table.

Daniel Birkby scored a first-half hat-trick for Hesketh Bank in their 4-2 win against Lostock St Gerards to keep his current scoring streak.

Kevin Edgar scored Hesketh’s last of the game after Oliver Oxley and Shane Mead had netted for Lostock.

Hesketh Bank are five points behind Milnthorpe with six to play.

Callum Walsh also got three goals for his side as Stoneclough beat Crooklands Casuals 3-1.

Two of Walsh’s goals were penalties but he won’t mind a jot as his side continue to compete in the top five of the division. Luke Armstrong was the scorer for Crooklands.

Eagley are level on point with Stoneclough and they also won this weekend. Michael Linney’s goal was the only one of a 1-0 win for the visitors over Kendal County.

Haslingden St Marys drew 0-0 with Askam United while the scoreline was the same in the match between Horwich St Marys Victoria and Millom.

Division 2: Burnley Boggs-le the mind

Burnley United battered Cartmel & District 5-1 in a game that boasted an action-packed second half.

Burnley led 2-0 at the break through Niall Edmondson and Michael White, but Kian Dewhurst made it three soon after before Ryan Patterson got one back for Cartmel & District before James Boggs and Ben Uttley rounded the victory off.

The second-half goals of Daniel Wyatt and Alexandre Santos were enough to see Charnock Richard Reserves triumph 2-0 over Storeys whilst league-leaders Rossendale could only manage a draw against Kendal United.

Division 1 Reserve: Penalty Pandemonium at Tempest

There was an astounding three penalties scored in Tempest United Reserves’ 2-1 victory over Euxton Villa Reserves.

Nick Skelly scored two for Tempest while Ashley Ball converted his spot-kick in the 90th-minute.

Colin Bousique-Green scored a brace for Burscough Richmond Reserves in their 3-1 win.

Adam Jarman scored their other goal while Kurtis Beattie scored Eagley Reserves’ consolation.

Matthew Bagot’s late penalty was not enough to see Hurst Green Reserves take anything from their match against Lostock St Gerards Reserves.

James Whalley, Sean Allerton and Josh Taylor netted Lostock’s three.

Kane Froggatt, Noah Hindley and Harry Wignall helped Fulwood Amateurs Reserves to a 3-2 win over Blackpool Wren Rovers.

Poulton Reserves beat Croston Sports Reserves 2-0 through goals from Aaron Fleming and Ralf Thelfall-Newton which takes them level on points with the aforementioned Wren Rovers.

Horwich St Marys Victoria Reserves beat CMB Reserves 1-0 through the goal of Leiden McClean in a result that shifted Horwich another step further away from the relegation zone.

Division 2 Reserve: Rossendale rolled over

James Parkinson and Connor Adams both scored twice in Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves' 5-0 smashing of Rossendale Reserves.

Dan Nowell scored the other in an incredible result for Milnthorpe against the third-placed team in the table.

Carnforth Rangers Reserves beat Galgate Reserves 4-0 thanks to goals from Kieran Gorton and then late finishes from Cole Holt, Ben Turton and Joe Sowerby.

Finally, Matthew Rhodes’ goal was the decider in Lytham Town Reserves’ 1-0 win over Thornton Cleveleys A.
