Josh joy as Slyne comeback ends in defeat

Poulton fended off a second-half fightback from title challengers Slyne to stay top of the Premier Division writes BEN SMITH, match action captured here by JONATHAN MOORE, with added photos from Kendal County v Hawcoat Park by RICHARD EDMONDSON.

Premier Division: Poulton still in pole position

Poulton remain top of the Premier Division after eventually seeing off Slyne with Hest 3-2 in a top of the table clash.

The two sides sat first and second going into Saturday’s game, separated only by goal difference, so a hard-fought contest between the pair was always on the cards.

A Mitchell Cheetham brace had given Poulton a 2-0 lead, but two goals in three minutes courtesy of Josh Draycott and a Connor Crossley penalty saw Slyne with Hest fight back to level the game at 2-2.

However, Josh Few would restore Poulton’s lead just 10 minutes later with what would prove to be the game’s decisive goal.

Burscough Richmond and Fulwood Amateurs took advantage of that result, as both secured victory to leapfrog Slyne with Hest in the table.

Burscough Richmond are now second after beating Wyre Villa 3-0 thanks to goals from James Walker, Ade Kirkbride and Raj Singh-Uppal, whilst Fulwood Amateurs are third after securing a 6-0 win against Milnthorpe Corinthians.

Matt Van Wyk scored a remarkable four goals, with Harrison Walsh and Layton Kirnon also finding the net for Fulwood Amateurs, the latter from the penalty spot.

CMB sit fifth, now just a point behind Slyne with Hest, thanks to a 4-1 victory over Blackpool Wren Rovers.

Hayden Taylor opened the scoring for CMB, before his goal was cancelled out by Blackpool Wren Rovers’ Carl Eastwood.

Goals from Daniel Crook, Oliver Turner and Ben Thornton would though see CMB ultimately take the three points.

Elsewhere in the Premier Division, two goals apiece for Jordan Lorde and Jordan Bentham helped Coppull United on their way to a 5-1 win at Lytham Town.

Ross Ainsworth had netted the game’s opener to put Lytham Town in front, before Lorde and Bentham took control of the game for Coppull United. Ethan Ellington completed the scoring for the visitors.

Daniel Stoney went one better for Thornton Cleveleys, as he bagged a hat-trick in a 4-0 win over Turton after Danny Morris had opened the scoring.

Owen Woodburn was another player at the double as he scored two in Whitehaven’s 4-1 victory against Hurst Green.

Kevin Holiday and Tommy Whitehead also found the net for Whitehaven, whilst Jordan Monk got Hurst Green’s only goal.

A first half effort from Scott McDonald was enough for Vickerstown to beat Tempest United 1-0 and earn their fourth win of the season.

Division One: Title rivals cancel each other out

As in the Premier Division, it was match-up of two high-flyers that took centre-stage in Division One this weekend as Rossendale faced Hesketh Bank.

League leaders Hesketh Bank opened the scoring through Harris Labrey, but Rossendale’s Tom Hulme would equalise just after half-time, tying the game at its eventual final score of 1-1.

With those two sides forced to share the spoils, Lostock St Gerards seized the opportunity to gain ground as they beat Eagley 4-0 to move ahead of Rossendale and into a second, just a point behind Hesketh Bank.

Isaac Loftus got Lostock St Gerards off the mark just two minutes in, whilst Dan Fryer netted a double. Adam Stammers also found the net with a penalty.

Millom picked up the win of the weekend in Division One as they triumphed 6-0 over Ulverston Rangers.

Jackson Evans scored a hat-trick for Millom, with Jamie Cairns, Danny James and David Mennell all also grabbing a goal.

The game between Stoneclough and Horwich St Mary’s Victoria also saw six goals, albeit in a more even spread as the two sides played out an entertaining 3-3 draw.

Horwich St Mary’s Victoria initially led 2-0 thanks to goals from Leiden McLean and Alex McKenzie, but would find themselves 3-2 down as Stoneclough mounted a comeback through a Josh Hill brace either side of a goal from Nathan Pitt.

However, Nathan Allen would level the game at 3-3 just five minutes from time to ensure Horwich St Mary’s Victoria left with a point.

Hawcoat Park picked up their first away win of the season as they beat Kendal County 3-0 thanks to Sam Beattie’s brace and a strike from Sam Hayes.

Haslingden St Mary's also won 3-0 on the road, with goals from Lewis Hanley and Charlie Yates, as well as an own goal, helping them to victory over Crooklands Casuals.

Ryan Fletcher’s double for Croston Sports helped them register a 2-1 win at Southport Hesketh.

An own goal would halve the deficit with a minute of normal time to play, but Croston Sports would survive the late scare to take all three points.

Carnforth Rangers were the final side to win away in what was a relatively successful day for those on their travels in Division One, as they also triumphed 2-1 at Askam United.

Goals from Damian Murphy and Ben Turton powered Carnforth Rangers to victory, whilst Joe Tindale got the goal for Askam United.

Division Two: Bailey back at it as Walney Island regain top spot

Walney Island returned to the top of the Division Two table this weekend with a 4-0 victory over AFC Blackpool Reserves.

Frequent hat-trick hero James Bailey added another treble to his season’s tally, that after Kieran Solloway had put Walney Island in front.

Walney Island were given the opportunity to return to the summit after Kendal United beat previous table-toppers Holker Old Boys Reserves 6-0.

Jamie Harris netted twice, whilst Danny Craig, Marco Thompson and Bailey Kenny also got on the scoresheet, with Kendal United’s other goal coming courtesy of an own goal.

Euxton Villa Reserves also hit six as they won 6-1 at Galgate.

Nick Buckley bagged a brace after Lewis Pilgrim’s opener just four minutes in, before Ash Ball, Xavier Green and Lewis Henry rounded off the scoring for the visitors.

Chipping and Storeys played out one of the weekend’s most thrilling games as they drew 4-4 in a game of several twists and turns.

Rick Coar and Greg Trimbell established a 2-0 lead for Chipping, and despite Callum Moorhead pulling one back for Storeys, Chris Cookson would add a third to restore Chipping’s two-goal cushion heading into half-time.

However, a brace from Matthew Poole either side of a Jamie Hastings goal saw Storeys turn the game on its head at 4-3, before Sam Chatburn levelled things up once more to at least rescue a point for Chipping.

Two goals from Joe Bentley helped Freckleton move above Chipping into third with a 3-1 victory at Cartmel.

Samson Ogundaisi scored Freckleton’s other goal, whilst Greg Airey found the net for Cartmel.

Astley and Buckshaw would also win by a 3-1 scoreline as they picked up three points at home against Pause United thanks to goals from Chris Ward, Kurt Robinson and Wes Bajrallu.

And last but certainly not least in Division Two, it was all about late drama as Charnock Richard Reserves snatched a 2-1 victory late on away at Dalton United.

It took until the 81st minute for Jake Topping to open the scoring for Charnock Richard Reserves, before Jordan Chubb equalised for Dalton United just seven minutes later.

However, in the third minute of stoppage time, Oliver Oxley would restore the visitors’ lead, a lead which would this time prove decisive.

Just two games took place in Division One Reserve, with Poulton Reserves the only side to take maximum points with a 2-1 win over Croston Sports Reserves.

Jack Butler opened the scoring for Carnforth Rangers Reserves, before Simm’s brace and a goal from Jimmy McLennon ultimately gave Fulwood Amateurs A the victory.

Stewart Rowe Memorial Cup- Preliminary Round: Brilliant Brickell bags four

Greg Brickell got four of his side’s goals as Coppull United Reserves beat Chipping Reserves 6-0. Ben Pendlebury opened the scoring, whilst Alex Dodoaca rounded things off.

Just one game was settled by a penalty shoot-out, and that game saw Hurst Green Reserves beat Eagley Reserves 4-3 on penalties after the scores finished level at 4-4.

Vlad Spiridon and Akbar Khosbab gave Eagley Reserves a 2-0 lead, before Matthew Bagot’s brace, a Liam Dewhurst goal and a Zac Foley penalty looked to have spun the game in Hurst Green Reserves’ favour, giving them a 4-2 lead with just 12 minutes to play.

But this time Eagley Reserves mounted a spirited comeback, with 88th and 90th minute goals from Karanga Zach-Browne and Mike Linney tying the game back up at 4-4.

It would though be Hurst Green Reserves who held their nerve from 12 yards to ultimately advance after a quite incredible game.

A hat-trick from Cole Exley saw Turton Reserves beat Rossendale Reserves 4-1, with James Sigworth also finding the net for Turton Reserves.

Brad Marsh got Rossendale Reserves’ only goal.

Lostock St Gerards Reserves would also secure safe passage with a 4-1 win as they secured victory at Storey Reserves.

Patrick O’Flaherty netted twice, whilst James Morley and Joe Ball also found the net for the visitors. Luke Capstick was the scorer for Storeys Reserves.

Fulwood Amateurs Reserves got off to a flying start in their victory over Thornton Cleveleys Reserves, with Hugo Strand netting inside the first minute as his side went on the win 3-1.

Nick Horsley did pull Thornton Cleveleys Reserves level, but goals from Dom Flanagan and Noah Hindley would see Fulwood Amateurs Reserves secure their place in the next round.

Finally, Tempest United Reserves also triumphed 3-1 as they beat Lytham Town Reserves thanks to goals from Gary Barnes and Nick Skelly, as well as an own goal.
