Gerards and Chipping enjoy sensational sunsoaked Saturday

Lostock St Gerards and Chipping celebrated title wins on a nervy final day of the 2022/23 West Lancashire Football League season with pictures from Lostock v Rossendale by STEVE TAYLOR.

Gerards pipped Rossendale on goal difference to the Division One title despite losing 2-1 at home to Rossendale, who got the result they needed to also win promotion to the Premier Division.

Chipping won 1-0 to beat Holker Old Boys Reserves to the Division Two title.

In Division One, Gerards knew they had already sown up promotion and only needed to avoid a nine-goal swing to lift the silverware.

Tom Hulme put Rossendale ahead early on but Danny Ormerod levelled before the break.

Rossendale, who needed a point to confirm promotion, got the decisive goal through Michael Saunders just after the hour mark to seal the three points for the Richardson Cup winners.

Down the road at LFA Shield winners Hesketh Bank, Danny Birkby’s men knew they had to win to stand a chance of denying Rossendale promotion and were keeping their side of the bargain, going 2-0 up through Luke Smith and Kevin Edgar.

But Eagley roared back through a Finley Stafford double and an injury time winner from Zac Karange-Browne to end the season in style to leave Hesketh Bank in third.

Southport Hesketh survived relegation on goal difference, earning a 1-1 draw at home to Ulverston Rangers.

That meant Stoneclough’s 3-0 win at Millom was immaterial and they will drop into Division Two.

Aquill Campbell, Ben Marshall and Dean Smethurst were all on the scoresheet.

In Division Two, a healthy crowd at a sun-soaked Chipping saw them edge past Kendal United 1-0 to win the title.

Rick Coar’s 12th minute penalty was the difference.

And in the final game in Division Two Reserve, Jack Mounsey scored twice for promoted Rossendale Reserves in a 2-2 draw at Haslingden.

The home side earned a point through late goals from Lewis Hanley and Spencer Cunliffe.
