Richardson Cup: Rossendale reach final in style

Division One Rossendale are through to the final of the Richardson Cup after a 4-2 win at Premier Division Slyne with Hest in the semi-final on Saturday.

A hat-trick from Scott Wylie powered his side to victory, with Simon Nangle also grabbing a goal.

Meanwhile, Reece Pearce scored twice for Slyne with Hest, but it would not prevent his side from being outfoxed by Wylie and co.

They will meet CMB in that final, who triumphed over Tempest United 4-2 on penalties after the tie had finished level at 1-1.

Presidents Cup: Slim margins split semi-final field

This season’s Presidents Cup final will see Eagley take on Thornton Cleveleys, with the pair surviving closely contested semi-final ties to reach the last two.

Eagley edged past Haslingden St Mary’s 1-0 despite being down to 10 men for long periods, whilst Thornton Cleveleys won 4-3 on penalties after their derby clash with Poulton ended goalless.

Challenge Cup: Dalton United dance into final showdown

Dalton United secured a Challenge Cup final spot in fine fashion, with the Division Two side seeing off Division One’s Kendal County 4-1.

Two goals from Jordan Chubb, and one each from Alex Bolland and Robbie Sanderson, secured the win, whilst Kendal County’s only goal was scored by Matthew Casson.

Carnforth Rangers also emerged from the semi-finals, narrowly denying Hesketh Bank the chance to reach two finals in the space of a week.

A penalty shoot-out was needed to split the two sides, a shoot-out which Carnforth Rangers won 5-4.

Premier Division: Burscough Richmond build cushion at the top

Burscough Richmond are now seven points clear at the top of the Premier Division after a 4-0 win away at Vickerstown.

Peter Armitage put the league leaders 1-0 up five minutes in, before Raj Singh-Uppal netted a quickfire double.

Billy Whittle then added a fourth not long after with still only 25 minutes on the clock as the visitors blew the home side away in ruthless fashion.

Second-placed CMB, who were in Richardson Cup action this weekend, do now have two games in hand on the leaders, but will have little margin for error if they are to overhaul that seven-point deficit.

Elsewhere, Turton also claimed an away victory as they beat Fulwood Amateurs 1-0 thanks to a 90th minute winner from Sam Rigby, whilst Hurst Green and Whitehaven played out a 2-2 draw.

Whitehaven led the game twice through Kian Goulding and Bradley Harrison, but they would see their goals cancelled out by Danny Mort and Jack Burgess respectively.

Division One: Lostock St Gerards’ lead grows further

Lostock St Gerards got a jump on their title rivals this weekend, claiming three with a 2-0 win at Millom.

Neither Hesketh Bank or Rossendale (second and third respectively) played a Division One match on Saturday, meaning the win saw Lostock St Gerards stretch their advantage at the top to eight points.

Ulverston Rangers are up to fifth after they also won 2-0 against Horwich St Mary’s Victoria thanks to goals from Ben Wheeler and Chris Wraighte.

And Askam United went one better, with Jordan Rayner, Joe Tindale and Corey Fittes all on target as they saw off Southport Hesketh 3-0.

Finally, Croston Sports secured three away points with three goals at Hawcoat Park, ultimately triumphing 3-1.

Ryan Fletcher got two of those goals, whilst the other came courtesy of an own goal.

Tom Hammond notched what would prove to be a consolation for Hawcoat Park late on.

Division Two: Walney Island win as title fight remains wide open
The temperature of the Division Two title race was turned up another notch on Saturday, with the league’s top two both making rare slip-ups.

Leaders Freckleton were held to a goalless draw at Astley and Buckshaw, whilst AFC Blackpool Reserves beat Holker Old Boys Reserves (currently Freckleton’s closest challengers) 2-1.

Holker Old Boys Reserves did initially take the lead through Dylan Ellis, but goals from George Byrne and Frankie Ball would see AFC Blackpool Reserves turn the game around.

Those two results will have been of particular interest to both Walney Island (third) and Chipping (fourth), who with victories on Saturday are now both firmly in the title hunt.

Walney Island’s win came in the form of a 4-1 triumph at Cartmel, whilst Chipping also won away, picking up a 5-1 victory at Pause United.

James Bailey was once again on target for Walney Island, scoring twice, whilst Hayden Skyrme and Paul Wrathall got one each.
Cartmel’s only goal came through Steven Porter.

Meanwhile, there was a pair of doubles for Chipping, as both Jack Fletcher and Harris Bailey scored two.

Matthew Shorrock also found the net for the visitors, whilst William Sharkey got Pause United’s only goal.

Euxton Villa Reserves, who have the least games played in the division, may also be dreaming of an improbable title charge after a comprehensive 7-0 win over Galgate.

Sean Elliott, Vaughn Green and Lewis Sullivan each scored twice after Lewis Thompson had opened the scoring after 22 minutes.

Euxton Villa Reserves are 16 points adrift of top spot, but possess five games in hand on its current occupants, so could still yet have a role to play in the promotion picture.

Kendal United would also need something extraordinary to gatecrash the promotion party, but did at least aid their cause with a 3-2 win over Burnley United.

Marco Thompson scored twice for Kendal United, either side of a Bailey Kenny strike, whilst Burnley United’s goals came via Harris Tomlinson and a Michael White penalty.

And in the final Division Two fixture, Garstang Reserves beat Charnock Richard Reserves 4-2.

Tom Graham grabbed two for Garstang Reserves, whilst Lewis Wellings and Luke Williams got one each.

Both of Charnock Richard Reserves’ goals came via Mohammed Butt.

Division One Reserve: Leaders add to healthy advantage
Lostock St Gerards Reserves extended their lead at the top of table to eight points with a 4-0 win over Fulwood Amateurs Reserves.

Dan Fryer netted twice in the win, with Adam Whittaker and Kian Clarkson also on the scoresheet.

Turton Reserves beat Croston Sports 2-0 to all but confirm the latter’s relegation, whilst Tempest United Reserves won 3-0 against already relegated Horwich St Mary’s Victoria Reserves.

Division Two Reserve: Key three points as Hesketh Bank Reserves look to hold firm

Hesketh Bank Reserves strengthened their bid to remain second with a 3-1 at Carnforth Rangers Reserves.

Aaron Blane, John Ashcroft and Joe Smyth-Ferguson got a goal apiece to secure victory for the visitors, despite Carnforth Rangers Reserves taken the lead through Jordan Darby.

That win means Hesketh Bank Reserves are now seven points clear of Rossendale Reserves in third, but having played five games more than the team directly below them.

Meanwhile, we complete this weekend’s league action at Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves, who beat Lytham Town Reserves 2-0 thanks to goals from Will Booth and Tom Ladd.
