Division Two Round Up 13th February

Kendal extend lead at the top

Kendal County extended their lead at the top of the Division Two table to 7 points after a 2-1 victory at home to bottom side Swarthmoor Social. Kendal took the lead through Joe Baker on 29 minutes and went in 1-0 at the half time break. Just after half time Matthew Clark made it 2-0 to the home side. Graham Wilcox pulled a goal back for the visitors on 70 minutes to set up an exciting final 20 minutes, but Kendal held on for all three points.

Croston Sports Club and Leyland United played out a fiercely fought local derby on the 3G at Bishop Rawstorne Academy in Croston. In a tight first half it was Croston who had most of the possession but the best of the chances falling to the visitors. The sides went in 0-0 at the break and the second half started in a similar fashion to that of the first. The turning point of the game came on 60 minutes when Leyland United’s Andrew Leggett was sent off for foul and abusive language. The game clearly changed and surprisingly it was Leyland United who stepped up a gear despite being down to 10 men. Their continued pressure eventually paid off when Harry Heaton put the visitors in from on 78 minutes. Croston went in search of an equaliser and they nearly pulled it off in stoppage time when Austin Waddecar’s strike was denied by a magnificent save from the Leyland goal keeper. Leyland held on and took all three points to go above Croston in the table.

All other games in Division Two were postponed due to waterlogged pitches.
