Division One Round Up 30th April

By Chris Wight

Turton confirmed as Division 1 Winners

This was a really interesting day in many ways with the second promotion place still up for grabs.

Dalton United traveled to Blackburn in a bottom of the table fixture and managed to register their first away win and away points of the season. Mill Hill St Peters opened the scoring on 8 minutes through Ben Singleton and they still led 1-0 at half time. But that man Gareth Jones then scored a hat trick with goals on 55, 80 and 85 minutes.

Burscough Richmond’s promotion hopes took a dent in Cumbria when they failed to score at GSK Ulverston Rangers. Unfortunately for them the home side managed two goals through Ronan Simpson (23) and Matty Lawler (69) to take all three points.

Hawcoat Park entertained Tempest United in a must win fixture for both teams. Unfortunately for Tempest the Cumbrians managed to exactly reverse the score when the two teams met a few weeks ago at Chew Moor.
Nathan Reid scored on 15 minutes and then Pat Allington (54) and Mike Wilkes (80) made the game and points safe.

Haslingden St Mary’s hopes off a strong finish to the season evaporated as Lytham Town won away 2-1 with a late 85th minute goal from Ric Tomlinson.
Alex White had opened the scoring just before half time for Haslingden but Ross Ainsworth then equalised on 66 minutes.

Poulton’s season of promise was further hampered whilst drawing 2-2 at home to Hurst Green. It looked bad for Poulton as Chris Scott scored for the visitors after only a minute but an Alex Harvie penalty after 3 minutes and a further goal on 27 minutes from the same player settled the nerves only for Jake Craven to pop up in the second half to make sure the game ended all square.

Turton have won the First Division with 3 games left and after only two league defeats all season. They should be a force to reckoned with in the Premier Division next season.

On Bank Holiday Monday Lytham Town had another excellent result this time 4-0 at home to GSK Ulverston Rangers with goals from Rob Hanslip, Ross Ainsworth, Danny Scarlett and a Ric Tomlinson penalty.
