Croston's joy as redevelopment plans backed

Croston Sports are celebrating after their ambitious plans for a new floodlit football pitch were approved.

The Westhead Road club wanted to redevelop their facilities, a plan which they say was approved by Chorley Council on Tuesday night.

In terms of the football pitch, they will move to a floodlit grass pitch on a new facility across the current hedgerow with a new football pavilion nearby.

It is hoped it will be ready towards the end of the 2027/28 season.

The existing pitch will be used for junior football.

Other plans include:

• Two-storey cricket pavilion building
• Padel court building and a floodlit tennis court
• Relocation of the existing boules court
• A 38-space car park

A club spokesman said: "We’re delighted to confirm that planning permission has been approved unanimously for the proposed development at Croston Sports Club.

"This is a huge milestone for the club and the culmination of a great deal of work by our volunteer committee and staff over a long period of time.

"As a registered charity and not-for-profit sports club, everything we do is about protecting, improving and growing the facilities available to our members, our sports sections and the wider Croston community.

"This development gives us the opportunity to take another major step forward and create facilities that can support grassroots sport and the village for many years to come.

"We’d like to thank everyone who has supported the proposals, provided feedback and helped us throughout the planning process.

"In particular, we’d like to thank Chorley Council and its planning officers for the time and consideration given to the application.

"We would also like to give a special thank you to Steve Wells Associates (SWA), specialists in the design, planning and development of sports facilities, for their advice, expertise and hard work throughout the process and for helping us reach this important milestone.

"We’d also like to thank our members, sports sections, volunteers, neighbours, local residents and everyone else who has given their time, support and expertise along the way.

Planning approval is a major step forward, but it is also the beginning of the next stage. There is still plenty of work ahead before the development becomes a reality, and we’ll keep everyone updated as those plans progress.

"For tonight though, we’re incredibly proud to have reached this milestone.

"Thank you for continuing to support Croston Sports Club and the future of grassroots sport in Croston."
