Cooper makes step up to Dalton hotseat

Dalton United Football Club will have a new person occupying the dugouts of West Lancashire League Division Two this season, writes Glen Ritchie.

Lindon Cooper, who has been reserve team co-manager for the last two seasons, is stepping into the first team management set-up, working alongside current manager Ben Shirley.

The duo are entering their third season at the club, having arrived at the club in 2021.

They are now partnering as joint managers of the club's first team.

Cooper has been Co-Manager of the club's reserve team with Daz Thomas for the last two years.

Daz and Lindon led the team to the Terry Clinton Cup final in the last two seasons, winning one and losing out narrowly on penalties against Barrow Celtic in May.

The reserve team finished their highest for more than five years, ending last season in a respectable fifth place in the Furness Premier League, Premier Division.

The club has appointed Mike Hustings as the new reserve team Co-Manager, working alongside Daz Thomas.

Lindon said: "The time just feels right to step up and get involved with the first team.

"I've had two brilliant years with Daz and the reserves team. When Ben asked me to come and join him, I had no hesitation.

"We've got a fantastic group. Pre-season has been brilliant, and we can't wait to get started."

Ben said: "Lindon is one of the best coaches around. His work with our reserves and as an FA coach mentor is a testament to that.

"He's done a great job, along with Daz, in making the reserves a winning team.

"I'm made up to have one of my best mates in football joining me in the dugout and I can't wait to get started with Lindon and the lads this season."

Dalton United get their West Lancashire League Division Two campaign underway on Saturday, August 5, at home to Charnock Richard Reserves (3pm kick-off).
