Association of Northern Counties Cup

By Chris Wight

Milnthorpe Corinthians stun holders Beverley Town 3-0 to reach the Association of Northern Counties Cup Final.

Corinthians produced one of their best performances of the season representing the Westmorland F.A against Beverley Town representing the East Riding F.A.

From the first kick of the game Corinthians pressed Beverley and got an early breakthrough when a Cory Vickers shot was blocked in the 5th minute , the ball rebounded out to Craig Edmondson who rifled his shot into the roof of the net giving their keeper Nick Tudor no chance.

On 12 minutes Mike Packham threaded a neat pass through to Peter Baxendale who from the edge of the box curled a perfect side footed shot into the top corner making it 2-0.
Corinthians continued to press giving Beverley no time on the ball and created many chances with both Scott Singleton and Baxendale bringing out the best in Beverley keeper Tudor, who did really well to keep the score down to 2-0 at half time.

The first minute into the second half Ryan Close was put clean through by Marcus Nicholson only to see his shot beat the keeper and shave the outside of the post.
Two minutes later on 48 minutes Close received the ball 12 yards out with his back to the goal, juggled the ball twice, turned and volleyed in an unstoppable shot to make it 3-0.

Corinthians continued to dominate possession creating many chances all well saved by Beverley’s man of the match Tudor in goal.

In the 80th minute things went from bad to worse for Beverley when full back Mike Dixon was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Adam White in goal for Corinthians was virtually a spectator throughout.

Corinthians now go on to meet Field F.C from Bradford who will be representing West Riding in the Final.

This will be a Home tie with the date to be confirmed.
