Askam United

First Team Manager steps down.

Askam United FC can confirm that Ben Shirley has stood down from his role as first team manager, with immediate effect.

Gary Penny, who has assisted Ben this season, will take over until the end of the season.

Ben had every intention of seeing the 2014/15 season out. He has recently, however, been offered an exciting new challenge at work which means that he can no longer commit the time and effort that he would like, to do the role at Askam, properly.

Chairman, Mike Jefferson, said "Ben and I both came to the club at the same time and it's been great working with him. He's done a great job here and it's a shame he can't see the season out but we totally understand and support his reasons for stepping down. Gary Penny is the ideal man to look after first team affairs now and we are confident the good work which Ben & Gary have done thus far will continue under Gary's management".

Ben will remain on at the club in a committee role.
