Tremendous Turton give themselves survival boost

Turton took a major step towards Premier Division survival as Rossendale became the first divisional champions of the season.

With two up and two down across the top three divisions, Turton’s 2-0 win at stuttering Euxton Villa has put them in pole position to stay up with five games to play.

Second half goals from Sam Rigby and Brad Yates, the latter from the spot, secured the three points.

They are now two points ahead of Poulton, who were denied a valuable three points by Reece Pearce’s injury time leveller for Slyne.

Max Landless had put Poulton ahead in the first minute and restored Poulton’s advantage in the second half after Robbie Moorings had restored parity. But up popped Pearce to leave Poulton up against it if they are to avoid joining Southport Hesketh in Division One.

At the other end of the table, Fulwood kept up the pressure on Thornton Cleveleys with a 2-0 win Coppull, Ellis Wallbanks and Brad Fox doing the damage.

CMB moved into fourth with a 3-0 defeat of Whitehaven thanks to goals from Dylan Winstanley, Will Owen and Hayden Taylor.

They leapfrogged Burscough Richmond who fell to a 1-0 defeat at home to Lytham Town, Ross Ainsworth being the penalty hero on the stroke of half time.

It was the same score at Vickerstown as Blackpool Wren Rovers’ Harvey Welford settled the fixture just after half-time.
Tempest United enjoyed a resounding 5-1 win over Southport Hesketh with a deluge of second-half goals.

Aaron Thorpe had handed them the advantage on 44 minutes only for Danny Singleton to level it up on 65 minutes.

But Tempest retook the lead on 75 minutes through Matthew Davies before late goals from Jordan Pendlebury (2) and Alex McClurg inflated the scoreline.

Division One

Hesketh Bank slipped up in their pursuit of promotion twice squandering the lead at home to Millom.

Kevin Edgar’s opener was cancelled out by Jackson Evans and lightning struck for a second time when George Bond’s 67th minute strike for Bank prompted Danny Pattinson to level it at 2-2.

That draw allowed Wyre Villa to close the gap to 10 points (with five games in hand) as they thrashed Ulverston Rangers 7-1 with seven different players on the scoresheet.

Player-manager Richie Allen got the ball rolling with Sam Milburn and Brett Ferguson making it 3-0 at half time.

Joel Brogan and Courtney Skerritt made it five before Leighton Hartley and Phil Doughty adding the cherry on top.

Sam Pinnegor got Ulverston’s consolation.

Double act Tom Kilifin and Steve Yawson were the difference again for title chasers Milnthorpe who saw off Lostock St Gerards 2-1, who made it nervous with a Jordan Wignall penalty on 59 minutes.

Crooklands Casuals slipped to relegation despite a 3-2 win at fellow strugglers Horwich St Mary’s.

A Ross Bird double and a strike by Luke Armstrong saw off Horwich whose goals were scored by Matthew Hancock and Scott Adamson.

Horwich still have hopes of catching Kendal County with three games left, after they fell to a 2-0 home defeat to Haslingden.

Luke Taylor and Leon Barker-Williams did the damage for the east Lancashire side.

Stoneclough stayed fourth after a 2-0 win over Askam United and Croston Sports dealt out a 4-0 thumping to Hawcoat Park.

Jordan Freeman grabbed one in each half and further goals from Mark Forshaw and Tom Craven earned the three points.

Division Two

Rossendale’s canter to the Division One title was completed on Saturday with a comprehensive 3-0 defeat of Garstang Reserves.

Michael Saunders got the party started on 28 minutes with Scott Wylie and Tom Hulme adding the gloss late on to help Ray Davis’ side pop the champagne corks in style.

They will be joined by either Carnforth Rangers or Burnley United, neither side was in action on Saturday.

Walney Island are fourth who beat Chipping 6-3 in a goal laden match on the Cumbrian coastline.

Harris Bailey scored twice to give Chipping the lead after Zach Walker’s opener for Walney on 20 minutes.

But a James Bailey hat-trick and goals from Sam Clayton and Kieran Solloway turned the tide to make it 6-2. Ewan Atkinson rounded off the scoring for Chipping on 88 minutes.

Galgate still retain hope of not being the basement boys thanks to a 3-1 win over Furness Rovers, Ryan Walton (2) and Aaron Halliwell on the scoresheet for the Lancaster side. Liam Shiels was Furness’ goalscorer.

Galgate need to win their final three matches to overhaul Cartmel who drew 0-0 with Kendal United.

A first half blitz by Freckleton was too much for Storeys who succumbed 4-1.

A Jack Williams pair sandwiched efforts by Saul Hamer and Steven Johnson with Luke Atkinson adding some respectability to the scoreline in the second half.

Division One Reserve

Euxton Villa Reserves are two wins from the title after a 5-1 win at Lostock St Gerards.

Ash Ball struck twice with Nick Buckley and Ryan Doherty adding to an own goal to seal the win, Harry Mahon with the goal for Lostock.

Hurst Green can still go up but need Thornton Cleveleys to slip up to be in with a chance.

The Ribble Valley side kept their side of the bargain with a 4-2 win at Eagley, Max Bryden, Louis James and John Stead on the scoresheet. Jordan Hibbert and Akbar Koshab replied for the Bolton side.

Poulton are also still in with a shout after an eye catching win at fellow promotion hopefuls Fulwood Amateurs.

Aaron Fleming grabbed a hat-trick, Matthew Seal earned himself a brace and Danny Porter’s late effort coupled with an own goal saw Poulton triumph 7-1, Noah Hindley with Fulwood’s consolation.

Blackpool Wren Rovers are also in contention for that second spot after a 5-0 victory over Tempest.

Ellis Wilson snatched two and further goals from Ben Seear, Luke Smith and Tommy Hanslip sealed the win.

A first half hat-trick from Lewis Greenhalgh helped Turton to a 3-2 win over Croston, who made a game of it second half with goals from Josh Beare and Scott Challenor.

Division Two Reserve

Coppull are a point from the title after Wyre Villa’s surprise defeat to Thornton Cleveleys.

Josh Sackfield and Spencer Phillips goals in a 2-0 win mean Coppull are six points ahead with two games left. They can secure the title by avoiding defeat at Milnthorpe on Saturday.

Milnthorpe got local bragging rights with a 2-0 win at Carnforth thanks to Tom Jackson and Caine McCartney.

Adam Zyda bagged two in Lytham’s 5-1 win at Chipping. Lewis Rae, Michael Brent-Reid and Aaron Poole also netted for the Fylde Coast side, Luke Conti replying for Chipping.

And Rossendale saw off bottom side Storeys 2-0 with goals from Dillon Cleaver and Stephen Dunleavy.
