Goals galore as CMB give up two-goal lead

By Andy Sykes

Eight goals were scored in an astounding 4-4 draw between Coppull United and CMB, writes THEO HEWSON-BETTS with pictures from JOHN SHIRRAS.

Jimmy McIver put Coppull ahead after seven minutes, only for goals from Will Archer and Ben Thornton to put the away side in the driving seat.

Coppull responded through McIver though and the teams went into the break level.

Within two minutes of play resuming however and CMB were back in front through a Ben Crook penalty.

Daniel Locke then netted too and the game seemed out of Coppull’s reach. It took them 15 minutes to score again, through Jordan Wilson’s spot-kick, before Jordan Bentham got the final goal of a frenetic match to earn them a point.

Fulwood Amateurs continued their spectacular run of clean sheets with a 3-0 win over Whitehaven Amateurs.

Lucas Weaver, Owen Sewell and Leyton Kirnon netted for the home side.

Fulwood are the side posing the biggest threat to league-leaders, Thornton Cleveleys, sitting 11 points behind the table-toppers but with four games in hand.

Thornton Cleveleys lost their match at the weekend, a 3-1 home defeat to Slyne with Hest making their spot at the top of the division look vaguely vulnerable for the first time in a long time.

Freddie Lynch, Reece Pearce and Josh Greycott were the scorers for Slyne, with Richard Wright’s goal unable to massively sway the result for Thornton.

Blackpool Wren Rovers started March with a victory, triumphing 4-2 over Tempest United thanks to two late goals.

Wren Rovers went ahead twice, through Jack Arrowsmith and Kian Makepeace, only to be pegged back by Will Brown and Nathan Monson respectively.

Late goals from Dejay Delacruz and Arrowsmith - his second of the game - saw Wren Rovers eventually grab all three points.

Patrick Bibby scored the only goal in Euxton Villa’s 1-0 victory over Burscough Richmond whilst goals from Liam Gledhill and Scott McDonald cancelled each other out in the 1-1 draw between Lytham Town and Vickerstown.

Southport Hesketh have been left floundering at the bottom of the division due to wins from their closest competitors.

Turton beat Hurst Green 3-1. Sam Rigby bagged a brace for the visitors with Dylan Jeffs netting the final goal after Jordan Monk’s effort threatened a comeback.

Poulton beat Southport Hesketh themselves to move clear of their opponents. Josh O’Neil and Sam Haines netted in a 2-1 win that saw Kyle Bell net for Southport.

Division 1: Casson the Assassin

Matthew Casson scored a hat-trick in Kendal County’s astounding 3-3 draw with Stoneclough.

Five of the six goals in the game were scored before half-time, with the sixth being scored only one minute into the second period.

Adam Lucas scored twice for the visitors after Callum Walsh had opened the scoring in the first minute of the game.

Alfie Flitcroft’s late goal provided little comfort to Eagley fans, who endured their team conceding four goals at home to a visiting Croston Sports side.

Sam Swarbrick scored twice for Croston, with Stephen Mercer and Jordan Freeman also netting.

Crooklands Casuals were unable to lift themselves towards their relegation rivals as they fell to defeat against Askam United.

Callum Rayner and Harry Bolton struck in quick succession for the travelling team and Ross Bird’s goal wasn’t enough for Crooklands to get back into the game.

Hesketh Bank posted a convincing scoreline against Wyre Villa, scoring three without response.

Tom Smyth, George Bond and Dan Birkby netted as Hesketh moved to within eight points of Milnthorpe Corinthians, who lead the league.

Corinthians won 3-0 themselves, beating Horwich St Mary's Victoria through goals from Aaron Hoyle and a Steven Yawson double.

Millom also scored three, though they conceded once, in their victory over Haslingden St Marys.

Henry Hindle was the man to breach the Millom defence after Harry Cowley’s opener. Danny Pattinson and Chris O’Brien were the men to finish the game off for Millom.

Lostock St Gerards will be kicking themselves for being unable to finish off their game against Ulverston.

Jordan Wignall’s goal for the away side had been cancelled out by the finish of Sam Pinnegor for Ulverston, only for it to appear that Lostock’s 83rd-minute penalty goal - scored by Mark Carlton - might have won them the game.

Along came Josh Catlott however, in the 93rd-minute, to level the match.

Division 2: Shots of Bailey hit Galgate for six

Harris Bailey scored a hat-trick in Chipping’s 6-3 win over Galgate in one of only three games in Division 2 on Saturday.

Matthew Shorrock, Anthony Slater and Ewan Atkinson were the other scorers for Chipping, with Jordan Lynch’s double being accompanied by a goal from Jack Preston for the losing side.

Rossendale took three points from Carnforth Rangers in their game. The travelling side went ahead through an own goal before Damian Murphy equalised for Carnforth.

Goals then from Simon Nagle and Tom Hulme saw the league leaders continue their hot streak.

Cartmel & District came from behind to beat Storeys 3-2. Liam Jackson had scored for Storeys after three minutes but goals from Danny Reeve, Tomas Augustin and Aiden Pearson saw the game go beyond the reach of the visitors, despite Gary Louth’s late goal.

Division 1 Reserve: Hurtin’ Turton

Turton Reserves were beaten 3-0 by Hurst Green Reserves with Craig Crooks, Gary Knight and John Stead all scoring for the visiting side.

Poulton Reserves won their game against a struggling Burscough Richmond Reserves side. The match ended 2-0 with Danny Porter and Matthew Seal getting on the scoresheet.

Tempest United Reserves and Croston Sports Reserves played out a rare 0-0 draw in their match.

Division 2 Reserve: Storeys Bowl-ed over

Sam Bowling scored the oping goal in Wyre Villa Reserves’ 4-0 win over Storeys Reserves.

Rob Norton, Reece Wilkinson and Daniel Fryer were the other scorers in a result that sees Wyre close the gap on top-spot to only six points.

Will Booth’s double helped Milnthorpe Corinthians Reserves to a 3-0 win over Galgate Reserves, Liam Irvine converting the opener in that game just after half time.

Thornton Cleveleys A also won. Beating Rossendale Reserves 3-2 in the final game in Division 2 Reserve.
