On the eve of a new football season Garstang Football Club have been shocked by the resignation of Player Manager Michael Stringfellow who has taken up the position as Player, Assistant Manager with cash strapped Lancaster City who play their football at four levels higher than Garstang F.C. in the football pyramid.

Michael said, “ An opportunity to play at this level again was too much to resist, it wasn’t about money”


Club Chairman Adrian Wilding and his Committee have been quick to respond in an effort to maintain stability within the Club by appointing Stringfellow’s previous assistant Iain Swann as First Team Manager. Swann whose professional career was cut short by injury previously for Oldham Athletic, Morecambe and Lancaster City.

Iain said that he was delighted to be given the opportunity to work with such a forward thinking club.

Swann has also been quick to appoint last seasons Player Coach Leon Gierke has his Number 2 and who will continue to play’

Gierke has also played at a high level in the Welsh League and at Lancaster City. He was a popular figure last season at the Riverside picking up both the Managers Player and the Players Player of the Season awards.
