Thornton Cleveleys face Burscough test as first fixtures revealed

Thornton Cleveleys will begin their title defence with a tricky trip to Burscough Richmond as four new clubs make their bow in the West Lancashire Football League.

John Beavers’ men will head south for the curtain-raiser on August 6 while newly promoted clubs Milnthorpe Corinthians and Wyre Villa also start away from home, at Turton and Whitehaven respectively.

In Division One, last year’s Division Two champions Rossendale host Hawcoat Park while Carnforth Rangers head down the M6 to Haslingden St Mary’s.

Our four new clubs start life in Division Two – Pause United, Holker Old Boys Res, Astley and Buckshaw and AFC Blackpool Res.

Pause United will join the West Lancashire League

Pause United, who play in Bentham, welcome Cartmel while Holker Old Boys travel to Euxton Villa Res.

The other two clubs face each other, Astley and Buckshaw at home to AFC Blackpool Res.

There are four sets of midweek fixtures in the Premier Division, Division One and Division Two.

However, due to many clubs finishing their season very early last season and with 12 sides in each division, there will be no August midweek fixtures for clubs in the reserve divisions.
