Round: 'We could have been in top three or four'

Part 5 - Dave Round is another long-serving manager, now entering his 18th season in the dugout in Cumbria. His Vickerstown side had a scintillating start to last season but they dropped off after Christmas to finish 11th.

How do you sum up last season?
“We had a really good first half of the season but then we were hit by injuries.

"The whole of the defence was out so that killed us. We struggled after that and we lost Scott McDonald to Kendal Town too for seven or eight matches.

"I believe but for those factors we could have been in top three or four.”

Best side you faced and best player?

“Overall the best team we faced was Fulwood. They were really good, very impressive.

"As for the best player, Dom Lawson at Thornton stood out. He won them games, his finishing was top drawer.

"I really hope it works well for him at Lancaster City – that’s what we want from lads in this league, to develop and go test themselves higher.”

Players in and out
“We have a couple of lads trialling with Kendal Town at the moment and we’re trying to get two or three in but generally we’ll have the same side.”

Aims for the season
“Stay free of injury! I think top half is realistic and then see if we can kick on.

"We got to the quarter finals of the Richardson Cup and LFA Shield last year where we lost to Rochdale Sacred Heart so it would be great to go further than that this time round.”
