Lawson brace sees Beavers' boys go top

A Dom Lawson-inspired Thornton Cleveleys are the new leaders of the West Lancashire League Premier Division.

Lawson took his goal tally for the season to five as Thornton Cleveleys thumped Southport Hesketh 5-0 on their own patch.

Lawson scored twice in the first half for John Beavers’ side, who now sit pretty at the top on goal difference from Vickerstown.

The Cumbrians had Kyle Delves to thank for the only goal of a tight game with Fulwood Amateurs.

Delves struck on 35 minutes to secure Dave Round’s side all three points to make it four wins out of five.

Fulwood finally return to their home tomorrow night against Slyne with Hest after four consecutive away games, scheduled for expected pitch renovation works.

It’ll be a tough ask though as Slyne come into the game on the back of an eye-catching 3-1 win at Burscough Richmond.

The home side took the lead inside three minutes through Will Doherty but Harry Vaughton and Harry Morrison handed Slyne the lead at the break before Finley Leach settled the match in the last minute.

Previous leaders Lytham Town have a game in hand after their match with Hurst Green was called off.

Euxton Villa took advantage to jump into third place with a 4-0 at Tempest United and CMB scored three in 11 second half minutes to defeat Coppull United 3-1 in the Bolton rain.

A belting game at Blackpool Wren Rovers saw the Fylde coast side share six goals with Turton who earned a point with a last gasp leveller.

Turton raced into a two goal lead but three strikes in 15 minutes turned the match on its head, only for Lee Bradbury to slam home an equaliser from 20 yards in stoppage time.

And Whitehaven got their first points of the season with a 2-1 win at Poulton Town to lift themselves off the bottom of the table.

In Division One, Hesketh Bank lead the way despite throwing away a 3-0 lead at Stoneclough.

A Dan Birkby goal and a double from Tom Smyth looked to have maintained their 100% record so far this season.

But Mark Truffas grabbed two either side of a James Dickie strike – all in the last 15 minutes – saw the points shared.

Steve Yawson continued his hot streak with goals eight and nine of the season as Milnthorpe Corinthians backed up their impressive midweek win over Wyre Villa with a 2-1 win at Hawcoat Park.

Wyre Villa bounced back in style with a 5-1 defeat of Askam United, Adam Stammers firing home twice from the spot for Richie Allen’s men.

Bailey Wallace was another player to grab a brace in Euxton’s 3-1 win at Crooklands Casuals and Lostock St Gerards’ march up the table continued with a 2-1 victory against Millom.

Haslingden St Mary’s wasted a 2-0 lead at Ulverston Rangers to head back south with just a point after a second half fightback from their hosts.

And a Wes Alexander double helped Croston to a 3-1 win over Kendal County.

In Division Two, Rossendale are now the only club in the top three divisions with a perfect record after five games thanks to their 3-2 win at Walney Island, Tom Hulme grabbing his 10th of the season in the narrow victory.

He’s joined at the top of the goalscoring charts with Jordan Chubb whose hat-trick helped Furness Rovers to a 5-3 win over Chipping.

Carnforth Rangers had a nightmare start to their game with Garstang, who led 2-0 inside four minutes.

But goals from Cameron Holmes, Joe Jobling, Jonny Ash and Ahmad Agha completed the turnaround to keep Carnforth in second place.

Kendal United’s hopes of five wins from five was thwarted with a postponement at Burnley United but they are nicely poised to keep the pressure on Rossendale at the top.

Connor Jamieson fired two in Charnock Richard’s 3-1 home win over Galgate and three second half goals powered Storeys to a 3-0 victory over Freckleton.

And Dalton United earned a 2-1 win over bottom side Cartmel and District, Daniel Leech grabbing the winner with 13 minutes left on the clock.
