Doble: 'We did well against top sides but lost to those around us'

Part 3 - Craig Doble, 38, is manager of Blackpool Wren Rovers. He is a former right back and is hoping to do his UEFA A licences in the future. Wrens finished 12th last season in the Premier Division.

How do you sum up last season?
“We were very inconsistent. We went to Vickerstown and every player was under 21 and we won 1-0.

"We did well against the top sides – we were the only side to beat Fulwood Amateurs twice but then lost to those in and around us.

"We had to make too many changes throughout the season – it wasn’t anyone’s fault - so it was hard to get any momentum and we went from in the top three to being out of it.”

Best side you faced and best player?
“I thought Hurst Green were excellent last year against us. I liked the look of Danny Mort up front, he was excellent.

"And Jordan Lorde at Burscough Richmond too, he’s gone to Runcorn Town now, his movement and finishing was class.”

Players in and out
“We’ve lost Jack Arrowsmith to Longridge Town who has gone with our blessing.

"I’m sure he’ll go on to make a name for himself too – we want our best players to go up the levels and want to better themselves.

“We’ve signed Jacob Aspinall from AFC Blackpool who has been at the club previously.”

Aims for the season
“Good question! Every manager will say the same at the start of the season, everyone is hopeful and optimistic.

"I aim high and we’ve got to build from last year and aim for the top five. Whoever finishes above Fulwood will win it.”
