Burscough Richmond 'bitterly disappointed' as reserve side folds

Burscough Richmond chairman Chris Clandon says his club had no alternative but to scrap their reserve side after being left with no manager and only six players.

Burscough Richmond Reserves were due to line up in a 13-team Division One Reserve league with the curtain-raiser on August 6.

But with the season looming, Clandon said they have reluctanctly had to axe the second team.

He said: "Our manager left at the start of the new year and we managed to get an interim manager who said he would commit to the end of the season, which in fairness he did.

"He managed to bring in a few players and we saw the season out. We were looking for a new manager but despite some interest it never went further than that.

"The players he brought in didn't want to commit to this season and we were left with six players.

"It's bitterly disappointing. It's a good place to play football in a good league. The deadline was looming for registrations with Lancashire FA and fees had to be paid so we had to make a decision.

"It's not what we wanted - we always wanted two sides but it's an impossible situation. It's a real shame."

Clandon thanked those who contributed to the reserves last season.

It means Division One Reserve is now down to 12 teams.

Meanwhile, Burscough Richmond's top scorer from last season, Jordan Lorde, has signed for North West Counties First Division North side Runcorn Town.

He was the Premier Division's second top scorer with 21 goals in the league.
