Brickell rolls back the years as Coppull set pace - midweek round-up

Thornton Cleveleys inflicted Lytham Town’s first defeat of the season to stay top of the Premier Division.

Dom Lawson followed his weekend double with the opening goal in the Fylde coast derby.

Dan Stoney added to the advantage in the second half and despite a late Tom Eastham goal for the home side, Thornton Cleveleys hung on for three precious points.

There was a dramatic finish at Burscough Richmond where Jordan Lorde thought he had earned the home side a point against Euxton Villa with an equaliser in the 89th minute.

But Ethan Darr popped up in injury time for Matt Atherton’s men for a 3-2 win.

Fulwood marked their first home game of the season with a humdinger against Slyne-with-Hest with Tony Hesketh’s men winning by the odd goal in seven, youngsters Matt Van Wyk and Lucas Weaver among the home scorers.

CMB moved into fourth with a 1-0 win at Hurst Green, courtesy of a Dylan Winstanley strike on 38 minutes and Jack Arrowsmith grabbed both goals for Blackpool Wren Rovers in their 2-0 win over Poulton.

Tempest United had five different goal-scorers in their 5-0 thumping of local rivals Turton and Coppull United came out 3-1 winners in the battle of the basement boys away at Southport Hesketh.

In a reduced Division One fixture list, Hawcoat Park had the stand-out result with a 6-0 defeat of Crooklands Casuals, Luke Mitchell and Matt Pickering both notching a brace.

Stoneclough moved up to fourth with a 4-0 away win at Horwich St Mary’s while a Lewis Hanley pair was enough for Haslingden St Mary’s to see off Eagley.

And it was stalemate in Cumbria as Kendal County and Ulverston Rangers cancelled each other out for a point each.

In Division Two, it was a case of ‘double JJ’ for Freckleton who saw off Garstang 5-2.

James Jemson and Jamal John both scored two for Freckleton to earn their first home points of the season.

Carnforth Rangers kept up the pressure on Rossendale at the top with a 2-0 at home to Storeys and a late Gareth Jones penalty earned Dalton United a point at Walney Island.

On Monday night, Lostock St Gerards leapfrogged Hurst Green to go top of reserve Division One after coming from behind in a 2-1 win, Ben Davies second-half strike enough for the three points.

Elliott Kerr bagged two in Thornton Cleveleys’ 3-2 win at Poulton and Euxton fell to their first defeat of the season at Blackpool Wren Rovers despite going ahead early on through Sean Elliott.

Eagley are still looking for their first points of the season after a 3-1 defeat at home to Tempest United and Croston moved into sixth with a 2-1 win at Burscough Richmond.

CMB enjoyed a 2-0 win over Stoneclough and Horwich St Mary’s prevailed 3-2 over Turton.

In Division Two, veteran Gregg Brickell (pictured above on Saturday) grabbed his second double in three days as Coppull United maintained their 100% record with a 3-0 win at Hesketh Bank.

Ryan Yates scored twice in Wyre Villa’s 4-2 home win over Galgate and Alex Parrott was no doubt sick as the proverbial feathered bird after his hat-trick was not enough for Storeys who went down 3-4 at home to Carnforth Rangers.

And Zak Scott’s treble earned Haslingden a 4-1 success against Fulwood Amateurs A.
